The Ackerson Eyecare Center Staff Dr. Laird Ackerson, O.D.drackerson@sbcglobal.net Dr. Laird Ackerson has lived in the Hilliard area since 1964. He has been involved in numerous community activities including the Hilliard Optimists and Lions Clubs. He has coached baseball since 1975 for Hilliard area children. He started his practice in 1982 and continues to live and work in his hometown. His interests include: Sports Vision, Contact Lenses, Ocular Health, Vision Training, Pediatric Optometry and treatment of eye disease. Dr. Ackerson believes in staying on the cutting edge of technology. He believes preventative care is better than fixing a problem. Did you know that the average optometrist takes 20 hrs of continuing education a year? Dr. Ackerson took over 70 hrs last year! Dr. Kathryn Vanderhorst, O.D.drvanderhorst@sbcglobal.net Dr. Kathryn Vanderhorst is originally from St. Marys, Ohio. She received her undergraduate degree from the University of Dayton and graduated Magna cum Laude from the Ohio State University College of Optometry. She began her career as an optometrist here at the Ackerson Eyecare Center in August of 2006. She has lived in Hilliard with her husband Brian for 3 years and loves the close-knit feel of the community. Dr. Vanderhorst is dedicated to becoming an active member of the Hilliard community. She is involved in the Junior League of Columbus, which is an organization of women committed to promoting volunteerism and improving our communities. She also volunteers for the RealEyes classroom initiative by visiting the Hilliard elementary schools and educating the students about the importance of eye health and safety. And right here in the office she participates in the InfantSEE program by giving FREE eye exams to infants age 6 to 12 months. Dr. Vanderhorst is a member of both the American Optometric Association and the Ohio Optometric Association. Dr. Duke Dye, O.D. Dr. Dye is originally from Salem, Ohio. He began his career at Ackerson Eyecare Center in Aug of 2008. He graduated from Ohio University with a B.S. in Industrail and Systems Engineering. Dr. Dye then spent the next 5 years working for Siemans Energy and Automation and Honda of America Manufacturing as an engineer, before attending the Pennsylvania College of Optometry in Philadelphia, PA. He completed externships at the William Feinbloom Vision Rehabilitation Center in Philadelphia and U.S. Veterans Affairs Outpatient Clinic in Akron, Ohio. Dr. Dye is looking forward to becomming apart of the Hilliard community and is devoted to providing the community with quality eyecare.
